National Doctors Day: Celebrating compassionate care

04/16/2026

Celebrate National Doctors Day

The bond between a physician and a patient is built in moments that matter most — a reassuring voice in uncertainty, a listening ear when answers are unclear and a sense of trust that carries families through life’s most difficult times. Long after an appointment or hospital stay, the impact of compassionate care stays with patients and families.

In March 2026, patients, families and supporters paused to reflect on the moments in healthcare that matter most—the care they receive and the doctors who made a lasting difference in their lives. More than 2,000 heartfelt notes and messages of gratitude poured in for National Doctors Day 2026 to lift up the excellent caregivers and care teams at UT Health San Antonio.

Doctors' Day 2026 brings a wave of gratitude

Each message reflected the power of human connection in health care. Some shared gratitude for a doctor who took time to listen. Others remembered the comfort and reassurance they felt during a life-changing diagnosis. Together, these messages became a powerful tribute to the dedication, compassion and excellence of our physicians and a testimony to the doctor-patient relationship.

Some patients and families also chose to make a gift in honor of their doctors, supporting the continued advancement of exceptional care for our community.

Through the Grateful Patient Program, that impact continues by recognizing exceptional care and helping build a healthier, more connected community. Every note, every gift and every expression of thanks is a testament to the extraordinary role care teams play in the lives of others.
